Will Kids Choose Fruit Over Candy?

Researchers found that kids will choose to eat fruit and vegetables if they are simply set out as an option to choose from along with less-healthy offerings like chips and birthday cake. Although it seems unlikely, in studies about what leads to increased vegetable and fruit consumption, researchers tested this approach many times and found that putting an open serving bowl of vegetables or fruit was enough (without mentioning it or encouraging it) to get kids to eat a serving of produce. Some parents were reluctant to put fruit or vegetables out in a party setting, thinking it will go to waste amid all the junk, but this appears not to be the case.
